Part of the Street Art Textile project in downtown Toronto, “Foreboding” has all the elements of spontaneous drive behind it: it was conceived in one day and brings forward bright, contrasting colours amplified by wide brush strokes that add distinctiveness to this abstract composition.
This tapestry laid unfinished for a few months. At the time of creation, October 2021, I was disturbed by the strong imagery it offered. The uncanny resemblance between the red stripes present in this work and streams of flowing blood left me perplexed and searching for answers.
Now that rivers of innocent blood are flooding the streets of Ukraine, I was able to reconnect to this work and complete what turned into “Foreboding”, a tapestry that I have come to interpret as a vivid premonition of the impending violence now ripping through my native land.
